Afternoon All,

I've been asked by the directors or our business to put a proposal together regarding the regular inspection of all our company vehicles, covering comapny cars, grey fleet and about 15 small vans, below 3.5t.

I can't seem to find any definite information about the frequency of inspections.

Daily walk arounds are mentioend but do these need to be formal / recorded?

If any one has any advice or can point me to any detailed HSE guidance I'd be grateful

Kind Regards

Andy

The law states under PUWER that every employer has to make sure work equipment is 'maintained in an efficient state, in efficient order and in good repair' Work equipment could include vehicles.

Make sure you follow the manufacturer's guidlines and and that servicing schedules and MOT's are followed appropriately.

Daily walkarounds should probably be the minimum you do. We have a fleet of 30 HGV's in the company I work for and the level of maintenance, inspections, daily/ weekly and monthly checks are phenomenal that have to be done to meet accreditation status and to keep our trucks within legal boundaries.

Have a look at VOSA website (or whatever they call themselves now). The link below may help it gives an indication of the things to look for when doing checks and inspections etc.

Hope this helps.
