Hi all

I've been asked to form a Health and Safety committee for a corporate orginisation ( an investment bank)I'm looking to recruit members from across the business but would like to call it something else rather than a H&S committee. I was thinking of something like Health and Well-being however we would still need to get safety in there somehow

any ideas most welcome!

Mike

Thanks both, I was thinking of SHE. I wanted something a bit warm and fuzzy rather than the standared H&S comiittie which will put people off!

It could be a forum, or a working party. I currently labour under an H&S panel.  Rather than Health and Safety it could refer to legal compliance or perhaps worker wellbeing and compliance (as the issues you will be involved in will be more like stress rather than the more traditional chemicals or machinery)

I work for one of those modern thinking companies who would certainly want to avoid the "committee" word.

We have H&S Champions who represent the various brands / divisions (based in locations across the UK).

We then have a H&S Champions Conference (twice a year) with teleconferencing filling in the gaps.

Lovely idea to call it something different.

I don't think you do need to put 'safety' in there.  A term such as 'Well-being' or 'Welfare' or 'Workplace improvement' could be considered to include that implicitly.

Depending on what you want it to do, it could be an 'action group' or a 'forum'.

They are in Financial services so how about

Employee Health and Well-Being syndicate

Or

Employee Health, welfare, investment syndicate

If you want a catchy acronym how about

WASP - Welfare And Safety Panel (or switch Welfare for Wellbeing)

or  have a committee tagline thats links to the business?
eg.. You can bank on us to invest in your safety & wellbeing

Presumably, the desire to call it something else is down to a perceived lack of enthusiasm amongst staff should the trational name be used. Whilst I can understand the wish to grab people's attention, I wonder if the emphasis should be on changing the perception of health and safety rather than grabbing at the latest buzz words.

Apoligies for the very late response

Actually changing perceptions was part of my plan.  It's not about buzz words but more about modernising and targeting your audience. If H&S committees are associated with clip boards and hivis vests then peolple may not see it as relevent to them in some sectors or environments
