I’m looking for some advice on formal qualifications in health & Safety law. Distance learning is the preference (currently living overseas) but I would be able to pop back to the UK to complete any exams. Thanks.

31 have read but none have responded.

What do you want from this qualification?

If route to progress within a health and safety professional career setting, then the quals are much broader than just law.

If you want to transfer from another jurisdiction to work in the UK then alternate routes would be available, though probably without a formally accredited qualification in UK health and safety law.

Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify, I am British with the right to work in the UK. I’m just living O/S at the moment. I already hold two NEBOSH Certs, the part 1 dip & BSC level 6 dip & have 16 years in the profession. I’ve had an interest in specialising in H&S law for some time hence looking for a specific qualification.

I'm not so sure there is a legal qualification in just h&s law, although no issues if someone wishes to correct me..

If you have a law degree - I would have thought h&s law is just a minor branch of normal criminal law and how it is dealt with by the Court. I would have thought Court procedure and preparation is just the same as any other criminal trial.

If working as a solicitor in civil law, inuries cause at work are dealt with by personal injury claims - again is it any different from any other civil court case?

I am currently working through the work books for the NCRQ (National Compliance and Risk Qualification).  This sylabus is an alternative to Nebosh and slightly easier dare I say.  I am still stuck on my second of three books which covers health and safety law, notably Personal Injury Liablity and Absence Reduction.  This is a level 6 Diploma (degree level).  It is heavy going for me.  This course is distance learning,  I recommend it.

There's very little in the way of formal courses, like the old MSc in Safety Law that my boss did years ago - however your best bet is to contact either law schools or those offering safety degrees to enquire about taking any relevant modules they run, specific to safety law. Most courses will allow for this 'pick and choose' type approach.
