Need some advice. Vibration Regs state "mechanical vibration" being transmitted as there interpretation. I work in the corrugated printing sector where we have someone who repairs rotarty die cutting formes. This involves replacing blades but they have to manually notch or punch out holes in the blade. While it isn't vibrating, there is an element of impact as it relies on the operative applying force. After trying this role myself, the hand/arm can become tired through the force being applied. The impact is fractional in terms of time but it can be continuous. Would anyone know if I would have to consider the had/arm vibrations regs for this impact type task? Thanks in advance

I don't think that the regs cover this - previous incarnations of RIDDOR included a condition called "beat hand" which fitted the description of your task. I hadn't thought about it before but I think you are right in that current regs and guidance don't seem to sit well with this sort of situation.

Wouldn't this situation be more of a manual handling activity? Have you tried the ART tool for this?
I might be wrong though.....?

If you look at the daily EAV (2.5m/s2) as a starting point you may find it would not come under HAVS, which seems to be aimed more at powered hand tools, lawn mowers, chainsaws and other equipment that has a constant vibration element to it's use. This though does not mean the activity does not need further scrutiny and measures put in place to prevent operator fatigue.

As others have said, probably not HAVS. Have you considered the risk of RSI (Repetetive Strain Injury)?

I agree with the others: this is repetitive action and comes under manual handling rather than vibration requirements.
