Hello ,
A coleague's parent who resides in Cork , is concerned that their roof may contain asbestos - property was constructed in 2000 . Could this be posible .

Yes, it's possible. Asbestos laws in Ireland phased out its use from 1998, but there wasn't a complete ban until 2004 I believe.

Many thanks for information Elfin Davy . Was the complete ban due in 2004 to self enforcement by construction industry or Irish/EU legislation.

From memory, I believe that Irish law in 1998 pre-empted the EU law (which was in 2000 I think ?). The 1998 law largely put a stop to the use of asbestos in most cases, but allowed some asbestos to continue to be used (asbestos cement as an example) up until 2004 when a complete ban took effect.
