Probably my OCD kicking in - and it is a separate post elsewhere on the forum but I really can't stand poor notice boards.
You will all know and have seen them - memos signed by managers who left deacdes ago, browning and curling papers whose content lost relevance months ago and thanks to poor maintenance any attempt at new messages gets lost in the mundane and ignored. Hence DUDU - Date Up / Date Down The first question being when should the message come down? Next what is the message? Finally where and when will it be communicated? And then there are the sticky posts and announcements......

If I had a pound for every old H&S Law poster I came across...I'd be able to go to the IOSH Conference!

What I really like are signs that are left there years after the event; you know the sort “DANGER OF DEATH. AUTHORISED PERSONS ONLY.NO ADMITTANCE “, says the sign to the room where everybody goes for their tea break. “Oh we moved that out years ago! Everybody knows that there is nothing dangerous in here-it’s just common sense!”

Well there is a saying that if you don't want something to be read, put it on the notice board.
I have noticed that in places like waiting rooms, notice boards are placed over seats, so to read it you have to stand over someone to do so. People just don't like doing this, so the notice board doesn't get read. There might be a lot of useful information on it, but it might as well be posted in Alpha Centauri for all the chance of it being scrutinised.

I have noticed that some senior managers when they go on tours will stop at notice boards and I think that they see notice boards as evidence that stuff is getting done even though they are the only people to actually read the bloody things!

Perhaps they're hoping to see something good about themselves on it (or check for insults).

The other thing I hate is notice boards that have so much stuff on them that the important stuff gets lost amongst the "fluffy" posters about who was a good employee or who won the sweepstakes etc.
