Hi all Asking from a layman's point perspective. Would an air compressor come under PSSR for thorough examination etc?

Mike, Like most things, the answer is, it depends. The compressor pump unit itself, unlikely. Any air receivers & pipework systems, potentially, IIRC there is a flowchart to decide in the ACoP?

Thanks Paul, There is associated pipe work systems coming from the compressor. i'll have to look into it furhter. Hard to find a straight answer with these things sometimes

We have had a thorough examination for just the compressor because the tank had been taken out of the system, however the report said replace tank. Also, it will depend on the size of the compressor, some of the small ones will not meet the criteria. But of course, it is then a piece of work equipment, so PUWER. Chris

As the previous responses say - the compressor itself is unlikely to come under PSSR because the stroke volume is usually small. Any receivers may well come under PSSR.
The deciding factor for air is the energy stored in the system (as this is what has the capacity to do damage) and this depends on the pressure-volume product.
