Do the chains, hooks and shackles on a chain skip lorry come under 6 or 12 month inspection for LOLER. I am getting conflicting information where some say the chains can be removed and replaced so are classed as accessories, and some say that they are inspected annually as part of the lift equipment. Any definitive answer please?

Also, if the chains are classed as lift equipment then do the hooks and shackles used to attach the chain to the skip classed as lifting accessories?

Thanks in anticipation.

I would say 6 months as these are lift accessories.

Taken from  Safe use of lifting equipment ACOP http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/l113.pdf

Guidance 2

29. Lifting accessories would include such items as slings, removable eyebolts, chains, ropes, shackles, grabs, magnets, vacuum lifters, crane forks, lifting beamsand spreaders.
