Hi

Has anyone come across or can point me in the right direction, our company is working on a construction site where we deliver the finishes trades, we are told that after Christmas there will be no access through a lift and the employees will have to use the stairs.  The building is 27 storeys - can anyone tell me if there is a health and safety issues / legislation in relation to this.

Yes, there are health and safety issues for those who are not physically fit enough to access 27 stories high or those with ailments which may be exasperated by accessing 27 stories high....although you could look at it another way and say it is a well-being keep fit iniative....(joking).

Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and Regulation 17 of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 focus around the health and safety of others (your staff are not in the employment of the people restricting lift access) and the provision of reasonable access and egress on construction sites.

You will want to use both of these in your discussions and any risk assessments with regards to the provision of suitable access and egress.
