Hi, is anyone aware of a Corporate organisation with their head office in a certain city aligning with a Fire and Rescue service.
Strange question I know but it is one I have been asked.
I think the idea is to have one single source for advice and guidance on fire issues for their premises which are scattered nation wide.

Probably going to answer your question with another!
In my distant past working for local government there was the concept of "lead" or "home" authority. This was for national companies with multiple outlets throughout the Uk. The "head office" usually set up a formal agreement with the local authority where the head office was situated - thereafter, all other premises throughout the UK adopted the standards of that area. It meant that if you ran a pub/supermarket/hotel, etc., all premises within the group could standardise. One rule fits all type of thing. This was in the main for food hygiene and health and safety (I'm not sure about fire).
So.......it may be worth you looking/asking the local authorities where the big nationals are based ......good place to start would be the Environmental Health Department.

Thanks James. Fire safety is different to Environmental Health as advice usually means a visit to the premises and this would be difficult if the aliance is with a FRS in one part of the country and the advice needed for a premises in another.
Scotland has a national FRS so that would be simple but there are so many different FRS in England and Wales.
The question has been asked by a Board member who asked the CEO who probably did not think to ask why?

similar to James but NHS based at the time, 'lead' would come from elsewhere ... wasn't followed through based on locality differences

Hi John
Many thanks for your help. I think this is exactly what is needed but need to explore as there seems to be accent on enforcement. What the business wants is a point of contact when seeking guidance.
It will be interesting to see how the different fire and rescue services work together with one central FRA guiding the others and to see if they agree with each other.

We have a PAP with one of the fire services in East Anglia- is there anything I might be able to help with? I think under the PAP you receive assured advice, and you get a key person to contact with any queries.

Hi Jodie. I'm posting on behalf of a friend who works for a UK wide business. He is now more aware of the scheme and will select London FB if this all goes ahead. We are in Merseyside but they are not in the system. I have the document A Kurdzieol kindly posted and appreciate your input. Has the scheme been successful for your business and is it worth the money.
We find the different FRS have their own interpretation on how they use their powers, some will issue Notices right away while others choose the more friendly route in the first instance.

We have a Principal Authority Partnership here and we had one at my former employer. Bear in mind that they will charge for advice, however, we have avoided at least one prohibition in the three months I have been here because of timely intervention by our partner (we have around 1,000 properties, it's hard to keep track of them all!). Well worth the money. Oh and btw, it won't work in ROI if your client has properties there,

I think the PAP is worth what you put into it. We already had a PAP with one of the Borough Councils for the Food Safety side of things, and I know that has been a great help. The Fire one, we are already fairly robust with fire safety, but it has been useful to get some constructive feedback when reviewing policies and management plans, and also for advice on bits and bobs that crop up. Its good for them to get a feel for your sites ( or a sample) and understand how you work. Edited by user 16 January 2019 11:27:50(UTC)

I believe in two way communication and receiving feedback, when its positive, boosts ego and confidence. If it is not positive then something needs to be done to turn it around.
