As you're probably aware, one of the key KPIs that alot of businesses track is the lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) for either over one day or over three day incidents. The company I work for is no exception. The problem I have is that I find it difficult to obtain comparable data from anywhere to actually measure the performance against which makes it difficult to say a figure of 0.5 (for example) is good or bad compared to either other companys, the industry sector or across industry.
I know the HSE publish the incident rates for RIDDOR which with a little work can be convered in to frequency rates but obviously they dont track LTI rates.
So my question is are they available somewhere and I've just missed them and/or how do others make this a useful KPI that isnt just reflective of the companys own performance?

What you need to do is to get together with other similar employers in your sector and agree to share data. This is common in the public sector but I am not sure if the private sector would be so keen to do it.
