Hi everyone!
I am looking to move from construction into hospitality, specifically large international hotels, and am looking for advice as to what I can do in the meantime to demonstrate my desire/gain sector experience.
Currenltly I am a H,& E Consultant/Principal Designer, with projects all over London and SE England. I hold the NEBOSH Construction Certficate and am TechIOSH, AaPS. I have the NEBOSH Fire Certificate this Wednesday of which success will gain me TIFSM.
Within the next 3/4 years I will have completed the NEBOSH Diploma, which should give me the broader knowledge to leave construction as well GradIOSH.
My query is; what can I do to gain experience or knowledge working with hotels so that when I am ready to change career path, I can appear more attractive to employers? There doesn't seem to be any relevant courses.
I hope to hear back from anyone who can help, thanks very much much in advance!
With kind regards
Louie

Think about how you can use your existing job to become more competent on issues such as fire safety and Plant and Machinery. Possibly consider doing some food safety training? Consider joining the relevant IOSH specialist groups.

Thank you Peter,
It looks like the most relevant group is the food and drinks group, there isn't a specific one for hospitality. I will join and attend their CPD events.
Fire safety is becoming very important to me in my current role.

In the late 90's I worked for DeVere for a week on a 'resettlement' programme, considering their health and safety. Some of the elements you are going to need to consider and become familiar are elements like:
What is also worth considering is what your company (intended) has within its grounds, e.g. does it possess golf course, welfare facilities, fitness areas, swimming pools and does it put on events where crowds are likely to gather. These are additional areas that offer focus other than on generalised H&S that will be required. Regards

I would add water hygiene (not just Legionella) and asbestos to the list of useful specialist subjects for the leisure industry. Its also worth looking at things like conflict management, personal safety in general and wellbeing,
