Hi everyone,

We are installing some electric vehicle charing points at work using a respected company. The installing company says that there is no significant risk.

Can anyone help me with a couple of questions?

- Is any particular signage required to identify the charging points?

- Has anyone done a riosk assessment that identifies a significant risk?

Thankyou

We have a couple of electric charging points in our basement car park.  Strangely they appeared immediately after the MD got a BMW he can plug in (how's that for coincidence?)

We don't have them identified as a significant risk, though ours are in a fairly secure, dry, weather-tight beasement, which may affect things.

We don't have any signage on them.  (We don't have any signage on any of the power sockets in the office either, as it happens.)

thanks 1 user thanked achrn for this useful post.

Funnily enough, 2 of my clients have had the charge points suddenly appear after managers/directors purchased new hybrid cars

I must admit that I haven't looked closely, but what warning signs are there on those that are found in public places, e.g. motorway service area. You might consider taking your guidance from these.

I dont recall seeing any real "warning signs" at EV chargers

https://bpchargemaster.com/ nothing jumps out of the photographs from this provider

For other signage

Given the state of the on-line retailers a lot of the available to order seems be make it up as you want

I would not consider the introduction of EV charging - esp in a basement (Achrn)- as low/no risk

The Fire Protection Association have published an excellent guide to EV charging here:

That document could do with updating because BS7671 has had several updates since it was published. Also the majority of the electrical issues that are involved with car charging are down to the design by the vehicle manufactuers.

I fail to see why they have done what they have when it would have been simple to implement isolation within the vehicle, instead, there are a plethora of issues that are ignored and misunderstood by most installers, if they even bother to think about them.

From my experience its the manual handling of the cables, not damaging the car paintwork, slips trips from cable management..
