Hi all

I need to set some objectives for myself. I hate doing this!

Can anyone out there share some ideaes of what they have done in the past for themselves?

Mike

I've included things like networking, learning new things such as racking inspection (only really applicable if you have racking), extending training skills, running training courses - whatever needs to be done especially if it takes you a bit out of your comfort zone or takes you in a bit of a new direction.

This can take the form of a personal development plan - something which may form part of your CPD. The content could be anything that relates broadly to your working life, but could also include mentoring, coaching, volunteering in STEM events etc.

The objectives based on the content could include - plan to attend 4 committee meetings this year; pan to attend 3 STEM events; be proficient in a foreign language by end 2020, etc.

Then develop your plan on how to meet the objectives. Review and reflect.

Mike, there are so many objectives that H&S professionals can set but my view is to keep them simple and realistic. Some objective/ actions I have used include:

- Identify the top 5 H&S issues/ risks within your workplace and develop and objective for improving each;

- Produce x?? work specific toolbox talks based on accident/ incident reports or workplace hazards and to coach managers/ supervisors to deliver them (good for culture change and improved communications);

- develop a risk register (including others not just H&S);

- review of emergency procedures, update and communicate (including contractors, visitors);

- develop staff H&S handbook (good for induction, refreshers etc);

try and do something that will stretch your abilities and help learn something new!

good luck
