hi- could anyone please advise to what extent medical/clininal products should be included in a COSHH risk assessment . I work for the NHS and several sites have the usual cleaning chemicals etc but also medical / clinical products.I am unsue about including some of the medical products as these should only be used by health professionals and are stored securely but for example if a bottle of iodine was smashed this would be a more widespread hazard  or if a box of plaster cast mixture was damaged this may also pose a hazard.. Is there any guidance anywhere or better a list. All comments welcome. Thanks Andrew

Firstly you should not treat HealthCare Professionals any different from any other employee...the only difference is there are clinical practice directions that may provide you with additional controls.

Specifically for cleaning the HealthCare Technical memos will give you some guidance, spceifically HTM-01 series.

There are links to biosafety in Healthcare on the HSE website.

Like all of this though, you can facilitate the process you will need the individuals who carry out the task to give you the details on the process...observe and don't be scared of questioning...
