We have contractors coming on site to do a major build and they will have control of the area and will cordon the entire area off. What are our responsibilities regarding safety, and if there are injuries are we also culpable under CDM.- they have the pre construction plan. I maintain we need to know what is going on but capital team say not.

Read your client duties under CDM.

You aren't required to be an expert in construction but you need to be aware of whats going on.

You need to provide pre-construction information and appoint a Principal Contractor and Principal Designer.

Then monitor that they are doing what thyey should be doing

OP doesn't confirm who commissioned the work, a bit early to be talking about CDM Client duties.

In any event, a dialogue and ongoing communication between both parties is a common courtesy. There may be shared traffic routes or some level of incnvenience due to noise, deliveries etc. Where there is any degree of overlap, close proximity etc. it is prudent to have a conversation about potential for serious and imminent danger/ fire.
