Hi,
I am looking at ideas on working at height on HGV vehicles and particular tankers. We have just acquired a garage where we do inhouse repairs and the mechanics are required to work on top of the tankers. At present I am looking for ideas to implement a SSOW for this. There is no room for push along ladders or platforms? Any thoughts please.
Thanks Shaun

Hi Shaun
When you are passing the information back to those who will have to fund it and use it you may need to point out that whether these control measures are really reasonably practicable when put across all industry does not seem to matter anymore and to a certain extent the controls for falls are being imposed by other people's solutions (and therefore other people's risk history and budgets). What is important is perhaps to point out that these have become accepted practice, and categorically these examples will be used as what could have been done if it goes wrong. Please note there is often significant user resistance once they are in place, not only as a result of change but also because in my experience no one alters the "book times" for the tasks that will without doubt be slower because of the additional safety precautions, and therefore the net result is that the workforce feels under pressure and we all know what happens next.....
Regards
Bruce
