Question:

If you were to treat a door with a flame retardant coating, which allows a class 0 or class 1 standard to be achieved in accordance with BS 476 - what impact would that have on the fire resistance of the door.

If an existing compartment fire door is required to achieve 30 minutes fire resistance, but the standard of the door is not known, would it be acceptable to treat it with such a coating?

I would appreciate any guidance which can be offered on this.

Kind Regards,

James

A fire door is a fire door and not any old door with a coat of paint.

You cannot make a door into a fire door by just painting it no matter what the standard of the paint.

A required fire door in a compartment is designed to prevent fire spread from either side of the door and must be installed complete with it's door set. It must have the required markings, hinges etc.

I thought it was Friday for a minute.
