No, not another "please send me a template to avoid reinventing the wheel" post! I want to develop a risk assessment template for use by employees who have little experience of doing formal risk assessments (obviously a training need here). I need it to be easy to use, to generate clear priorities for action, and to be compatible with the requirements of OHSAS 18001. This is at a manufacturing site with many and varied activities including lots of different maintenance tasks. My outline of what I'm thinking of putting in it in order to guide the assessors through the process shows I'm at at risk of turning this into a monstrous multi-page document. Does anyone have any tips for keeping it short and simple? Or does it need to be a monstrous multi-page document to do the job?

Kate, I am currently training three lots of academy teachers to complete their own assessments and if you care to email me I will send some samples of the assessment design I have created. You may well need to alter to accomodate your different environment. Andy Bain

It has to be suitable and sufficient. If that requires a muli - page or more complex document then that is what is required. HSE's 5 steps to risk assessment is the simplest template I know but in my opinion this is an inadequate guide

Keep it simple - have you looked at the HSE recommended risk assessment template - it cannot be simpler? Have a look at the example risk assessments, you will see how easy it can be? Please don't make health and safety any more complicated than it already is, especially for employees.
