Titter ye not, Phil.
I have been involved in an apocryphal "washing of the cat out of the tree" exercise.
It was after 3 days aloft and we couldn't get an aerial up there to precisely aim 700 lpm at the offending moggy; nevertheless, the RSPCA officer sanctioned the effort.
We also held the traditional "catch the cat in the salvage sheet" competition: we failed, the said cat preferring to produce a resounding splat (after falling 30 feet on to the adjacent concrete) before scampering away with, apparently, little more than its pride hurt.

I'm sure I recall that years ago, one fire service managed to rescue a cat from a tree and the proceeded to reverse over it on the way back to the station. Obviously in a hurry to get back to the station for some lunch. Presumably 'cat au vin' was on the menu!!! Yes I know, cat that's been run over by a v.....................!
