So David Cameron is blaming H&S and red tape for the lack of interest in street parties for the royal wedding. He said on the news last night " I'm the prime minister and if you want a street party have one"
Great Cheers Dave.....What's Lord Young address? I'll spread the word that the parties on in his street

I think 'call me Dave' was referring to local councils trying to place restrictions in the name of H&S

Marvellous...until something goes wrong.
Incidentally, I had no trouble with my local council in getting approval for a Royal Wedding street party, including a Temporary Road Closure permit and free PLI!

Ironic don't you think. Where I live it is apathy that is to blame for the lack of street parties, even the council jobsworths can't get involved/ stick their noses in as there is nothing actually happening for them to be involved/ stick their noses in.

I wonder what regs the council could use any way. As it is the Health & Safety at Work act. Since street parties are not work they should not be covered, but friends getting together.

I think its more people are not that interested and that is the reason not many parties are organised rather than 'red tape' from LA's.
Maybe its a generation thing and 'Royal Weddings' don't hold much public interest anymore, I know I can't be bothered, but then I am not a lover of the Royal Family anyway - although I will still have day off and probably spent biking through the trails at Glentress.

Or do you think Dave wants the whole country to have a street party to make things easier for his party?

If he is talking about a fantasy like this, then there is less air time to challenge him about real stuff like NHS or the crooks in the city of london.
I'd do the same if I was in his shoes, however thats not likely to happen as I don't have the requisite morals to be a politician.
There are two street parties in our town, one being in our street - the council could not have been more helpful.

Gerry D, Shame on you for swallowing all the crap and propaganda that Dave C and his mate big Eric P keep putting out about Councils and ‘Jobsworths’ as you put it, and thank you Ray Rapp for putting the other side of the story over with regards how the majority of councils are assisting communities who are wanting to have a street party.

My friend was interested in arranging a street party, he applied online and received a pack with just about everything he need to plan and arrange the party, even forms and guides to apply for street closures.
He has not come across any H&S issues, everyone (even the council) does seam to want to help him arrange it and make it a good quality event.

Wonderful piece in today's London Evening Standard about the ridiculous bureaucracy that goes with the organisation of a Royal Wedding street party.
Talking particularly about the obstructive nonsense put in place by the *Royal* Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, it was responsible for a great many smiles on an otherwise hot and uncomfortable tube journey this afternoon.

Ian The reason that the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea has put such obstructions in the way is not Health and Safety but that fact in such an area you do not have plebeian activities such as street parties. If one is a resident of the Royal Borough one expects an invite to the party itself, or if one is, through some oversight not invited then one should withdraw to ones country estate to indulge in some quiet shooting and fishing. Street parties are clearly for the plebs in the East End and Up North.

Following the link above, we should now close this thread, since it is not H&S! "Before your celebration, have a quick think about making your party a complete success. If there's lots of traffic alongside your street party and you have lots of children coming, thinking about the risks in advance can be helpful but isn’t always necessary unless you’re a commercial organisation. This isn’t health and safety, just common sense. "
