I have been looking at the Red Tape Challenge. It talks about reviewing Health and Safety Legislation and shows 131 individual pieces of legislation. There is however one piece of legislation that has me a bit baffled. Can anyone tell me exactly what relevance it has to Heath and Safety. The piece of legislation is The Pensions Regulator Tribunal (Legal Assistance Scheme - Costs) Regulations 2005.

I was looking at the so-called Red Tape Challenge as well yesterday and against my better judgement I left a comment!

Never heard of the above regulations and I suspect someone has made a boo boo. As far as I can tell The Pensions Regulator Tribunal (Legal Assistance Scheme - Costs) Regulations 2005 are to do with finance - a much different regulatory burden.

Hi Ray, Just as I thought, it has been rushed and is not worth the effort really but the PM has said it is to go through so they can reduce the overall burden by the next election. I have spent a day listing all the legislation on the website and discounting the Pensions one it leave 130 pieces of legislation 40 are amendments, repeals and modifications. 8 pieces are termed Orders one of which is called Rules. One case (picked at random) is The Biocidal Products Regulations and its four amendments dated 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2010. If any of the amendments are revolked it will reestablish the original legislation so it seems that all five pieces of legislation are in line for the chop. I have not read them yet so don't know what they say but it seems to me a lot of time has to be spent on this before they are abolished, and guess what the deadline is about a month before they have to be reviewed by one of the ministers who will decide if they are to go or be retained. Guess which it will be, even if it does create more problems for the H&S field?
