I currently hold the NEBOSH Dip. and part of my current role is to act as CDM-C. I start a new job soon where CDM-C will also be one of my responsibilities, and in the future I hope to continue moving up the ladder so to speak. Would there be any benefit in me doing the construction cert. or any other CDM-C courses, or will my Dip. and experience be enough to let me expand? I am also currently studying for a safety related Bsc and doing my IPD to get chartered.

Any advice would be appreciated, especially from anyone who recruits for senior safety roles,

Many Thanks

If I were interviewing you, with the NEBOSH Diploma, BSc and Chartership, with construction experience on your CV, I would be much more interested in discussing how you apply your construction knowledge from a strategic safety management point of view. At this stage I would concentrate on the IPD and the BSc as I suspect that your construction safety knowledge has already moved beyond the scope of the syllabus of the Construction Certificate.

Interestingly none of my CDM-C team has a NEBOSH Construction Certificate.

One of the competences listed in the back of L144 is the construction certificate. Also if you are going down the APS (which you should) route, then the construction certificate holds 3 credit points, and I believe that the 3 points can be used in two of the categories instead of just one. can't use it in both though.

There is also the Management of CDM Co-ordination course which is again accredited to APS.

Hi

Our company expects a minimum qualification of the NEBOSH Construction to undertake the role of CDM Coordinator. The course is really more suitable if you will be undertaking construction site auditing.

APS membership is good evidence to show a client that you are competent to perform the role. However I do not rate some of their course literature which appears to be over the top and you'll find difficult to implement in the 'real world'.

You would be best to get some experience with mentoring starting on some low risk projects, proceeding to higher risk jobs with a copy of the CDM ACOP to hand.
