GUYS
Firstly thanks to all in advance who may answer this question.
Ok, I have my Nebosh General cert and have just left my last employment due to integrity issues of the MD. So although I was working in a civil engineering company within the QHSE department for over the only other course I completed was a two day entry confined space.
I wish to persue a career in H+S and ideally capitilise on the civil engineering / construction experience I have had thus far.
Its apparent that i need a CSCS card to accompany , hopefully the SMSTS and SSSTS Ccourse I am hoping to add to my Nebosh qual. Question is Why do the CITB not recognize the Nebosh certificate to qualify me for the Site Supervisor gold card. . . Or as may be the case have I been fed duff info by the people at the CSCS centre. I have been on the website and cant make head nor tail of all the cards. Black is fairly straight forward nad green is simple enough but can anyone help advise which touch tes I should be taking and which colour card is best to apply for.
Finally apologies if this question has cropped up on the discussion forums before.

This Q has indeed popped up a couple of times, CSCS do not recognise NEBOSH quals, but they do recognise IOSH membership status. Check the following link and browse to IOSH section and you'll see what you can apply for. http://www.cscs.uk.com/u...es%20of%20membership.pdf

I was in the same predicament as yourself
I got the yellow visitors card If you want the gold card you will get trainee written on it until you get NVQ L4
I completed my NVQ L4 and as such now have the black card - I believe this is the way forward
So to sum up - apply for basic test and go for visitors card
Once completed NVQ (now Level 5) apply for Management & Professional test - different book from other test
Good Luck Alan

This is where Safety is also a Mockery and an Area that needs to looked at. Even is you get the CSCS card the site you go to may not reconise them. They may want the Passport scheme or have a IMEA card also where does it stop.

Yes, I had to get the CCNSG Safety Passport to gain entry to one site. It would be nice if our IOSH membership cards were recognised as CSCS/CCNSG Safety Passport cards without having to pay extra and attend courses.

As already mentioned the card to go for in your position is the yellow visitors card. I have had so many issues with CSCS and how Principal Contractors implement their system I could shout from the rooftops.
We have contractors who have now been thrown off site (even though they have worked on this site for 6 months) because the PC has "reviewed" its competency assessment scheme. The reason? They have not got trade specific cards. The guys in question have been city and guilds approved craftsmen for over 25 years. When they did their training C&G was THE default trade training route. However, because they hadn't done an indentured apprenticeship CSCS wont recognise their C&G. Their options are NVQ or on site assessments- costs: minimum £6-800. Money spinner or what?
Apologies for the rant. Going back to your issue why do you want to go down the SSSTS/SSMTS route? Neither are relevant to H&S Practictioner role. Your next move should be Nebosh Dip or NVQ. If you go down the Nebosh route once you get the Dip you can attain GradIOSH status which CSCS do recognise, then get either gold supervisor card, yellow & white PQP card or black management card.

Forgot to mention, with your general cert and appropriate 2 years H&S experience you can attain TechIOSH which will get you the red management/supervisor trainee card
