I have an interview coming up with a manufacturing company that make industrial fan, heat exchangers, compressors and gas cleaning equipment. What do I really need to brush up on to prepare for an interview for this type of business?
Im from a manufacturing background, so Im well versed with the general areas regarding H&S, however I'd hate to miss anything specific for this type of industry?
Thanks in advance.

Guru, sounds like simple engineering processes. Think about noise, fume (possibly stainless = chrome, nickel), lifting, manual handling, machine safety, eyes, skin, lungs, culture. Ask about incident history, look on HSE enforcement pages, company website. Good luck.

At the risk of 'teaching granny to suck eggs', don't forget slips trips and falls, any lifting equipment - loler inspections etc; lock off and maintenance procedures for the machinery; testing of portable tools - grinders etc; if they use this type of equipment then consider HAV's; and then what about occy health screening for the potential problems stuff4blokes has suggested for noise, skin, lungs, hav's etc. I am sure more learned members will throw others into the ring. Good luck Guru, let us know how it goes.

If they're manufacturing heat exchanges I would expect to see a powdercoating process and possible surface degreasing (they may use evaporative oils to avoid this though [there's your first suggested improvement if not:-)]. Will have some fairly heavy presses depending on the size of H/exchanger they produce, plus return benders, press brakes, tube expanders etc - fairly standard machinery. Lots of brazing/hot works.

Sorry for the delay, I was successful in my application after 2 tough interviews! Apparently there was over 100 applicants, so it gives you an idea of how tough the market is out there (as if we didnt already know).
Thanks for everyone who chipped in with advice...appreciated :)
