Good Afternoon All,

I work for a large organisation and have recently identified areas within the business that require the employees to drive on company business, primarily their own vehicles.

Could any of you give me ideas on how this is managed in other large organisations? I am thinking of a training program that will capture all staff to declare their driving status or intention to drive. If they do drive, continue with a course on the company policy and best practice.

Any other ideas are very welcome.

Many thanks,

Vanessa

I recently attended the yorkshire branch meeting where "Driving for Better Business" was the feature subject, take a look at the DfBB website:
http://www.drivingforbetterbusiness.com/

There is a lot of useful information on the subject.

We use the BSC's online training for drivers and supplement that with two hours with a driving instructor for higher risk drivers (long distances, overseas, fleet van etc).

We are also introducing a 'permit to drive' whereby the employee self-certifies that his/her vehicle is fit, insured etc and he/she is fit to drive. The manager countersigns this for each vehicle.

Have a look at the Institute for Advanced Motorists (IAM) they have a commercial training dept and can help with understanding and managing the risks. www.iam.org.uk
