We have a >100 tonne object that needs to be inspected. We want an inspection frame which to rest it on and obviously this doesn't come under LOLER. Therefore, PUWER is the core legislation. However, we now need to ascertain what we need on this 'steelwork' frame e.g. plated load strength etc.
How would we best get this. I have seen BS EN 1993-1, but where do I get the exact info from to say 'this is what is required' from a H&S viewpoint. I need info quite urgently due to issues, but am unsure as to what to quote the senior management.
Thanks in anticipation

Waz. I'm not aware of any specific Reg or ACOP or BS that you can "quote". This is a simple engineering project specification.
We require a fabricated structural steel platform,/ tressel / standsx4 to support a 100tonne steel / concrete / wood..... object (is there a drawing of its size and shape with an estimate of the location of the centre of gravity) Is it rectangular? does it need to be rotated? do you have to get inside? Is access for other equipment required to inspect it? What height off the floor do you want.?
The steel structure design will have full calculation to demoonstrate its load capability with a safety factor of 4(?). I do sggest you get your insurance co to advise what (lifting bean type) standards they would expect you to employ. If you want calcs a firm of consulting structural engineers will do this.
only get it facricated when you have this.
OR go to a nearby large steel fabricating co and they will be able to tell you straight off - build it from 6"x6" steel RSJ.
