Hello everyone.I have been a trade union safety representative for several years in a manufactuing company.I have recently passed the Nebosh general certificate and I would like to move into a full-time h&s role(although i realise this wont be easy).Im just wondering if doing the Nebosh diploma would enhance my chances or is it too early to contemplate that ?

From personal experience, I have found that more companies are asking for the Diploma or similar level of qualification.

As Sean said, either route will enhance your chances.

When I completed my General Certificate I enrolled for the Diploma straight away, it's a hard slog but definitely worth it in the end.

Degree club membership is becoming a greater influencing in developing a career in H&S Management. At one stage this was desirable however this arguably is becoming essential.

Basically if you already have a degree, the NEBOSH Diploma is advantages, however if you don’t have a degree and you are serious about developing your career in H&S, I would explore the OH&S degree options.

Also as a qualification the degree is arguably more transferable rather the NEBOSH Diploma if OH&S career option does not work out for you.

My opinion only Paul but I maintain that the NEBOSH Diploma route by examination is the way to go rather than the Degree or NVQ course work route. You know you have been put through the mill after the gruelling examinations but it's well worth it. If you have a secondary discipline such as engineering to augment the Diploma then you will be more sellable to recruiters.

I work as an operational risk & safety manager, in healthcare. I have a primary law degree and post graduate healthcare risk diploma. I would like to develop a career with a complete focus on Health & Safety with a view to travelling abroad: Middle Asia/ America/Australia, would an International Diploma in Health & Safety from NEBOSH be perceived better from a professional perspective than a taught Masters in Occupational Health Safety from a Leading University (NFQ9). Not too sure which is better, presume the Masters.

All views / opinions would be much welcomed as I need to make a decision asasp.
