Dear all
I'm having a 'discussion' with our M&E contractor. We have some scaffold erected inside our building. We have this done to assist in the rigging of internal window cleaning cradles. We use to same company scaffolding company each time. On the most recent scaffold they have put a big sign on it with the company's name and ph number which they have never been done in the past. My MD has complained that it looks awful and wants it taken off.
Our M&E manger says it's a legal requirement so they can be contacted if there is a problem with the scaffold.
I can't find anything to confirm this, can anyone help

Surely the company details are only required to be kept on the scaffold register.... There's no legislation I know of that indicates free advertising!

I think there is a requirement under the Highways Act to have the name, address and telephone number, including “out of hours” emergency contact number, of the contractor responsible for the scaffold, to be legibly displayed on a board measuring 600 x 450 mm.

Think Mike mentions inside of the building.. if so not on the highway?

Thanks all. Looks like a classic case of someone saying you need it for 'elf and safety' and people believing it
Cheers

Mike,
Why not spin it on it's head. Ask the scaffold company to show the legal requirements they refer to. If they can't you look forward to seeing the sign be removed by Close of play.

The contact details are usually required as part of the Permit issues under the provisions of the Highways Act. This licences the scaffold for placing within the highway and authoroties may place any conditions on such a licence as they see fit.
the MD may request a smaller one as long as it is visible.
