It has been suggested by one of our workers that the use of safety goggles over spectacles may be detrimental to the users eyesight, does anyone have any information that would support this?

Andrew, you can get specific goggles that are designed for operatives that have to were spectacles, my first point of call would be your supplier of safety goggles for suitable eye protection for these workers Chris

Interesting topic, I have often pondered over this one as some of the more 'wrap around' goggles have caused workers headaches whilst wearing them and from personal experience I couldn't wear them because they altered my depth perception, yet when talking to the supplier (well known supplier) they were set supposed to be fine and not sight altering. BTW I am not a spectacle wearer. Please can you let me know if you get any good answers from this one.

One area that is often overlooked here is the compatability of not only wearing spectacles but also the goggles, often the goggles leave gaps where the spectacle frame lies adjacent to the persons head. Then you have the problem of ensuring that the ocular of the goggles is comparable with the spectacles. You masy also have the problemn that the wearer is continually removing safety glasses / goggles so that he /she can don their reading glasses and visa versa easy solution is to purchase bespoke safety glasses including lenses - it is not expensive as you may think. At the NEC the other week http://www.eyecareplans.co.uk/ Retail at £59.00

Many manufacturers have small cut outs to incorperate glasses so the fit shouldn't be an issue. If you are worried about material coming back through this you need more than goggles to protect you. My experience has been that the main issues of discomfort are down to poor quality, failure to clean properly causing scratching, narrow fit or poor adjustment. If you offer a selection and teach people how to look after thenm you will generally find your issues go away. On the issue of providing reading lenses there are at least two manufacturers that provide basic +1to +2.5 for around £5

Thanks for the responses they have been helpful. The main issue is whether looking through two lenses can have a detrimental effect on the users eye sight. I can not find any information to support or refute this. Any ideas?
