Any type of school trip will take some form of planning and the filing out of paperwork. In my mind doing a risk assessment is just part of the planning process and should sit alongside all the other arrangements eg:transport etc so the new guidance says that teachers do not need to do a RA for every school trip. How and who will decide whether the trip is hazardous? By doing a risk assessment maybe?

I also think that whilst the HSE seem to be reducing the need for risk assessment as far as criminal prosecutions are concerned, the insurance companies and loss adjusters of this world will still need to see evidence of informed consent and risk assessment if civil claims for compensation are going to be successfully defended.
