Hi all, twice in a week i am asking for some outside eyes for advice :) Basically we have a large fabrication that requires work to be carried out while it is supported off the ground by stands. The stands have been load tested and non destructive teseted also, stamped with correct SWL. The unit is supported at four points on stable ground, and the work being carried oud will include some grinding and welding. I just wondered what controls i could also put in place other than ensure minimum amount of staff woring on unit as required, no forklift operation near the supported unit etc. Just incase i am not thinking of anything, has anyone carried out work similar to this and come across anything odd on their RA, other than what i would expect the haxzards to be, i.e. crushing\collapse, which i am controlling with strongly supported load etc. Thanks folks

I would add some staff awareness information, ie keep clear. Also add frequent checks on supports to check that nothing is migrating under the vibration of the work going on. You might also wish to consider whether a rescue plan is appropriate

Ok your welding and fabricating so if you think there is any potential for the fabrication to be knocked off its supports why don't you weld on some fastenings (similar to the sea fastenings used on barges and ships) to prevent it moving if it sustains an impact. Your platers/ fabricators should be able to do this very quickly.
