Hi
I have the Nebosh Diploma and want to broaden my scope of qualifications to include an environmental course. I am researching various courses and have varying quotes and courses but wondered if anyone out there could provide some advice relating to a course and how it may benefit me professionally? any help would be appreciated as there seem to be so many out there at different rates etc
So far I have seen IEMA courses, Nebosh environmental, open book courses that give you membership to IEMA so that can built on etc but am still unsure and looking for some guidance from others in same situation or who work in this field and have these type of qualifications

Hi, I am in similar situation having recently passed the H&S Diploma so after some research decided on the NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management, distance learning through Shield's Training,it consists of one three hour examination and a 4000 word report, on successful completion you can apply for membership to IEMA, I chose the course because it gives you a level six qualification and I am still familiar with the way NEBOSH want questions answering (NEBOSH Mode) so to speak, hope this helps

The normal route is that you would do IOSH Managing Environmental Responsibilities (about 5 days course), then the IEMA asscociate certificate (again 5 days), finally the NEBOSH Env Dip (about 7-8 days). You have to have the IOSH and IEMA courses or equivalant knowledge to take the NEBOSH env dip.

Aviva do a modular course over 3 separate weeks. The first week is IOSH Managing the Environment. The 2nd week is EIMA Certificate which allows you to apply for AEIMA. (1 year's complimentary membership is part of the deal). The 3rd week is the NEBOSH environmental diploma. I am currently doing the course myself and can definitely recommend it. Just Google AVIVA Integrated Environmental Diploma.

Our environmental engineer did a degree in environmental sciences at University and since she has been with us has been done the IEMA foundation and associate courses and can't stop raving about them.
Our HSEQ manager has also done these now and before going on the associate course branded environmentalists tree huggers being Safety biased but had to eat his words upon his return.
Since then I have been on the IEMA foundation course. With little background knowledge in the subject I found it to be a real eye opener and an excellent course.
In environmental circles IEMA is a more respected professional body, after all that is their speciality as opposed to being tagged onto an occupational health and safety group.

I too am nearing closer to committing to an environmental course. I narrowed it down to either the IEMA associate certificate or the NEBOSH Enviro Diploma.
Both of which qualify you for associate membership to IEMA. Im a little confused at the suggestion that the IEMA associate certificate is a lesser qualification to the NEBOSH enviro Diploma?

Pikeman, where exactly does it say that your suggestion is the normal route?
Nebosh themselves state the env diploma is an acceptable qualification for IEMA associate membership http://www.nebosh.org.uk...ult.asp?cref=74&ct=2
Another potential route you can consider, is the British Safety Council Diploma in Environmental Management, I completed mine in 2000, and automatically received associate membership of IEMA for the first year free (not sure if this is still the case now). There was no pre requisite entry into the course, and it sits at level 6, same as the Nebosh Env and H&S Diplomas.

I gained AIEMA a few years ago via the Integrated Environmental Management course at Bath University, which is delivered by distance learning. I found it to be a well rounded introduction to the subject and very cost effective at the time, though on reflection some face to face attendance night have added to the experience and my knowledge.

I would agree with safetymanste. Spot on in advice for both qualification, and course provider.
