Do you have any information in your driving policy of driving hours per day, week, month and where you would consider overnight stays as a requirement as part of driving risk assessment?

hi

Im in the process of sorting a compnay driving policy myself so thought i would add comments

I have started with my risk assessement for employees who drive during working hours as part of their normal duties.

Rather than think about driving hours per day I have implenetd the control measure that every 135 miles continuous driving or two hours continuous driving they should take a 10- 15 minute break , outside the vehicle in an area where they can stretch there legs etc.

I have included a control that if they are office bound all day and are then expected to drive to a location for a meeting the following day they should plan the journey as such that they dont leave the office after eight hours then do an extensive drive to make the meeting

Similarly i have started the RA by asking is the journey absolutley necessary and if alternate method of travel can be used.

I kniow I havent answered all your points but I will follow this thread as would be interested on other replies.

We require a break of 15 minutes after each two hours of continuous driving and provide overnight accommodation if the total of travel time and working day exceeds 12 hours.

Hi Guys,
We specify that if our guys are going to be working in the same area the next day that they should stay out in overnight accommodation if they are more than two hours travelling distance away from base. It is all part of our journey management planning.

This saves on fatique and ofcourse petrol / Diesel.

What I do disagree with is the fact that two employees are forced to share rooms - which they are not too chipper about. Does anyone know of any ways around that one?
