Hello All,
We have hired a Counter Balance FLT for temporary use in one of our buildings. I noticed that unlike our own fleet (same manufacturer as rental truck); this one does not have a load back rest extension.
I informed Engineering & Purchasing and they have informed me that the supplier said “it’s not mandatory, they come like this and you add them to suit”. I have looked on the internet and found HSG6 which says to have one that prevents items falling over the top.
As it is likely that this can happen I have requested that the FLT is swapped for one of ours that only moves a small skip until I find out the correct information.
I would appreciate it if any members could advise me on this please? Are the suppliers correct or do I need a load back rest extension fitted on this truck? Please don’t answer with you are the customer get them to do it, in my company production and purchasing carry the authority I will have to prove it is a requirement before I can demand that it is changed.

As far as I am aware the guidance is for a back rest extension should be fitted where there is a risk of loads are liable to fall onto the operator. This would depend on your requirements, especially when hiring the forklift.
