Good morning forum users,

I have been tasked with producing a presentation on banksman/reversing agents. I have slides for daylight use but nothing for carrying out in darkness. The vehicles are Iveco vans and are used at Airports and for carrying people. Can anyone assist?

They are 2 different areas; as one is a much more skillfull activity than the other so any presentation and training needs to account for this as simple vehicle reversing control does not need a proper banksman

A reversing assistant does not help the driver to reverse but ensures that the area being reversed into is free of people etc so should be looking at that area and not at the driver and directing them back

I much prefer the term signaller as used in crane terminology - it is a much more apt description. To be honest one has to be very clear about what is to be done and the Reversing Assistant role for me is a little bit of neither fish nor fowl. Simple placing of all responsibilty on the driver is a bit of a cop out, no driver can ever have a realistic good view to the rear without camera assistance and I personally would rather use proper signaller control in all reversing actions of restricted rear vision vehicles.

You will find that the airports have some excellent training information, including the use of light batons for darkness working. I also have strong personal preferences for signallers to operate at the front of the vehicle with assistants to help her/him

I can't help specifically with the 'darkness' thing but there is information on the HSE website. IF your drivers are covered under the CPC requirements you might want to incorporate this into their training programme
