Dear all

I,ve just started to implement HAV procedures for my employer, as they had nothing in place prior to my arrival. Can any one assit me with providing information on where i can obtain a HAV log book to assit in monitoring the employees exposure,to ensure they don not exceed the daily ELV.
Any assistance would be gratefully appricated. Thanks.

It's a simple enough table; we use the 100 points system, i.e. 100 points equals 2.5m/s. The HSE site has a calculator and ready reckoner that you can instantly tap into. The real trick is getting accurate data for the vibration each tool emits. We do this by field testing but I'm pretty sure that HSE advise you to double the manufactuerers data.

Sorry that's a pretty quick and dirty answer, but the HSE site is a good starting point.

There are a couple of systems available that might help - it depends how complicated tool use and trigger times are and how much the company is willing to spend.

We have Reactec installed in one of our workshops as there is no daily pattern to the work carried out - different tools are used for different times each day. Info on the reactec system can be found at :-

www.reactec.com/havmeter/

There is also the havimeter. This can be programmed with the vibration magnitude of a tool and then attached to that tool. It measures trigger time ie it only comes on when the tool is used and then stops when the tool stops. I think it comes with a log book as well, but I'm not sure. More info at:-

www.thehavi.com

We do our own vibration measurements but are finding the most difficult part of vibration assessments is getting a reasonable estimate of trigger times as we have employees who use a variety of tools for a variety of times.

Good luck!

Jacqui
