Hello Any advice/guidance on the Red/Amber/Green tag system that's attached to various vibration tools, as to the info that's provided on these tags. Also is there a ACOP for this procedure as I,ve searched the vibration Regs but seemed to find nothing on the subject or is this good practice.
Thanks Allan

We're currently go through the process of reviewing the Hav Meter, which is the system your referring.
I'll PM you the web address for the unit. You can register with the web site and get to view all the material & videos which should help you understand it a little more.

U do not need to provide information on the tag itself - a tag represents an immediately available obvious indicator to the user
The secret to the tag system is the training and understanding behind the tag system along with accurate measurements, maintenance etc. And no ACOP exists

There are a number of different tag systems, most are colour coded and some you can put your own information on such as the HSE exposure points. They can be a useful visual indicator to operatives as to whether the EAV or ELV are likely to be met or exceed and on some tags you can add vibration exposure points to allow for a simple and practical assessment of the exposure in ’the field’.
There is no specific ACoP for the tags themselves but I am sure that you will find L140 useful if you are going to instigate a tag system.
Be aware that the previous HSE advice in INDG175 to double manufacturers data has been revised. But I would also be wary of using manufacturers data at ’face value’. Also be aware that accurate measurement of HAV with any system has been found to be problematical with widely differing figures being measured on consecutive measurements. A single reading is very unlikely to be representative of a lot of equipment in operational use.
All that said, I think the tag systems do have a part to play and as Bob has said training and information is very important in gaining understanding.
