This is a pilot for a potential new comedy series described by Channel 4 as:
"A larger-than-life studio sitcom with Jack Doolan, Rhys Darby and Vic Reeves that follows the trials and tribulations of Brightsea's less than competent Health and Safety Department."
Set to record so expect a few reviews over the weekend.

I saw it being filmed so it will be interesting to see how it comes together now they've edited it...

You can pretty guess how Channel 4 have edited it.....lol I just laugh about it, and carry on acting professional at work, letting people know that IOSH members are not the general stereotypes, and that we are actually human. I will tune in just to see....I am sure my partner will be sniggering in the corner whilst watching, bless her.

Oh yes. I remember the animal loving (!) Mr Lard well. Despite also being an ex fire safety inspector (for the record an non pet owner), found him hilarious, probably as I have worked with many officious Mr Lards in the past. Don't forget the character was clearly and identifiably based on a fire safety inspector that used to terrorise the nightclubs in Peter Kay's old haunts. So much so that a fire safety officer complained and an out of court compensation settlement was reached that the 'real' Mr Lard paid into the fire service benevolent fund. Let's hope Channel 4 can continue this high quality poke at our industry and any replies by the H&S fraternity is proportionate (caution, some bad language in this hilarious clip)

You know what? I'm really really pleased that those of us in the fire safety industry can appreciate the fact that Keith Lard is a factual/fictitious character that poked fun at our profession, and enjoyed watching him on TV, without complaint.
I remember one particular scene where there was a curtain drawn across a fire exit and he was just about to draw back the curtain and I foresaw what was about to be exposed.
The door was secured shut by chains and padlock and even though it was exactly as I expected I couldn't help myself drawing breath - this because it looked so real and something I have seen myself in the past.
As for the Channel 4 offering last night, well I saw the first few minutes then - when I awoke it was finished. Does that tell you something ?

Watched it last night and it's got potential but it could probably have taken more of the daily mail myths and built on them. The one armed woman who completely over reacted to minor hazards was a very familiar character in this job. The 'PA' and the bloke who fell on the original manager look the most promising. It was a bit rough round the edges and could loose Jim Moir without too much loss. It reminded me very much of the early IT Crowd.

Couldn't be bothered to watch it, still cant. But them most attempts at humour on TV fail miserably. Can't see this being any different.

Watched it this morning. Diabolical. But could it be true to life ?
Should be shown once a year to every safety team in the land (just before the annual general booze up) as an 'orrible warning.
There could even be people out there who think we are really like that.
We aren't, are we ?

Sobs quietly in cupboard. Merv, I suspect that you know that there will be the occasional 'yes' answer to that question. I've occasionally felt like the lad in the high viz watching all your good work fall apart because your colleague can't differentiate between hazard and risk and completely over reacts.

Well I loved it. Rhys Darby is a comedy genius - almost as good as in Flight of the Concords. A harmfless and satirical take on our profession which does us no harm at all unless we start becoming humourless and react in a bah humbug sort of way.

I watched it hoping to get a good laugh, and was very dissapointed! The only funny bit (IMHO) was the ladder safety demo.

Thought it might be 'Friday topic' but alas I agree with the other comments, very poor, not funny, maybe I am getting a bit of an old curmudgeon but I did not find it amusing in the slightest; sorry Vic but dont bother with it again - stick to 'shooting stars'. I guess the ratings will decide if it continues.

.....watched it whilst having my breakfast this morning and found it about as much fun as trying to nail blancmange to a ceiling

I agree that it was rather boring and unfunny - cept the scene where the guy was in the cupboard speaking to himself. I thought that was appropriate with some of the management I have worked with in the past.
And I wonder how many posters of "General safety" wll appear in some work areas shortly?

I'm going to have to move away from the sea now that a risk assessment has been carried out
