Hi all,
I've been invited to an interview for a H+S Managers job at a Hospital. Its not until mid Oct but I'm away on hols for a few weeks so I'm trying to collate some info early!
Any ideas on what sort of questions may be asked? Or any suggestions on any documents I might need to gen up on?
Any help will be gratefully recieved!

Infection control - sharps etc. Violence and aggression Slips trips and falls Moving and Handling COSHH PPE PUWER / LOLER Safeguarding / security Mandatory training Accident reporting

All of what SBH has said - but depending on the type of hospital eg acute, mental health etc more emphasis will be on some subjects than others. Also according to the age & type of premises you could add asbestos and legionella management.

Ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation
Getting trapped in bed rails etc

Also don't forget the duty of care to visitors to the site - there will be many. Food hygiene and security also.

I would advise you to look at the bigger picture rather than focusing on obvious immediate issues.
Hospitals are also big building and campuses which require extensive maintenance work, have difficult and extensive service such as piped medical gasses, require extensive cleaning, frequently have building works, asbestos is often a major problem and don’t forget hospitals often have labs, CSSD, pathology, pharmacy and legionella!
Have you looked at the HSE website, contacted the IOSH Healthcare Specialist Group and have you undertaken a walkabout at another hospital to see what other hazards there are?

You need to look at the NHSLA Risk Management Standards. http://www.nhsla.com/riskmanagement standards. These are used in all hospitals. The main ones you will need to have some idea of are in Criterion 3 although there are one or two in the other ones - just scan quickly through especially the one on reporting. These standards have three levels and acheiving each level results in a substantial reduction in the 'premium' paid to the NHSLA for handling claims - both clinical and non-clinical. If you have the time contact the hospital and ask to visit and speak to someone involved in the recruitment process and you will then be in a better state to see what they want and also you show interets in the hospital.
