Quick question, hopefully a quick response please.
We have two 45-gallon drums of diesel oil stored for the use in emergency generators.
Do they need a bunding system; they are stored approximately 10 metres from an open drainage system.

Yes.
Looking at your profile the England Regs apply. Scotland NI etc regs are slightly different but YES is still the answer.
The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001,
Para 3(5)

You could just about use a bunded pallett for these but you are on the borderline. 4 x 20 gallon drums would keep you well within limits for size.

Steve, there are plenty of off the shelf bunds for two 205 ltr drums, just do an internet search. As the drums are outside, you will need an enclosed one so that the bund does not fill up with rainwater, thus reducing the capacity. The bund should be able to contain 110% of the capacity of the largest container. Have you considered what you would do if the generators leaked - provision of a spill kit andappropriate trainingetc?
