Opinions please. Tower Crane Operator feels to ill to carry on Site Manager decides after own First Aid rep checks him out that he needs emergency help. Fire Service and Ambulance called stabalise TC Operator and recover him from height to waiting ambulance. The Hospital diagnosed a mild stroke but he is still there 8 days later. 1. Is it Riddor reportable. 2. Who by. (PC or Employer) I have my views but would appreciate that of others. I do not feel ringing the help centre beneficial as they feel everything should be reported if it seems out of the normal. This is the first TC Operator rescue most of us in our side of the business have known in over 20 years through ill health.

Not RIDDOR. You must be pleased that the recovery from height went well.

Not RIDDOR reportable. This was a medical condition, not work related.

Thanks people for the replies. Yes Ron it was good that it worked very well. I put it down to a very good Site Manager who even visited the lad (57) in hospital. He had his Construction Safety Critical Medical only 9 months ago. It shows you can be passed fit but very quickly the good old reaper can still try to get you. Ta Alex

Is there a case for bringing these SCMs down to 6 months for the over 50s perhaps?

Ron It would be a good idea if we could convince the powers that be that the money spent on extra medicals would be worthwhile. The SCM is quite a strict medical but I don,t know if it could go as deep as diagnose the possibility of a Heart Attack/ Stroke. I will keep digging at the hierarchy for TC Operators and see where it goes. Ta Alex
