Is this in the context of very early design considerations, before the requirement to appoint a CDM-C kicks-in?

Do you mean Concept Design which is usually the artistic impression produced early on in the design?

Even at this stage the concept architect should still produce design risk information as one design practice often produce the concept with another separate practice developing the actual design afterwards.

Hi All

yes this is the stage before the CDMc kicks in, i would image once the CDMc plays his part he should determine if the heiarachy of control has been followed as per reg 7

Many design concepts are simply pictures of how the initial design house envisions the clients needs and vision and are no more than that. Rarely are any risks determined as they simply set out the aesthetic view. Another designer will ultimately bring this into the real world and actually start to identify the risks. Havve seen many concepts that were in fact near unbuildable. Welsh Assembly Building comes to mind:-)

CDM-C should be considered as an integral part of the Design Team, influencing design decisions, not just confirming (or otherwise) after the fact. He should also be playing a key part in information gathering, communication and exchange (pre-construction information).
