Does anyone know of any good UK based law, ACOP's or best practice guidance regarding the transportation of (human) blood samples to hospital or other labs. I've seen the HSE's take on this regarding blood borne viruses etc but am struggling to find any clear guidance on best practice/SSOW in terms of taking samples from the workplace to laboratories by hand, (I am aware of the Royal Mail guidance as far as posting samples is concerned). Any pointers would be appreciated.

Royal mail standard is more or less fine. There are commercially available packaging kits that comprise all that is necessary for compliant packaging and transport by road, rail, air etc, and even by Royal Mail who generally operate far more stringent controls to protect their workforce. There are also various courier companies who will uplift, transport and deliver your samples (if packaged correctly)

try the department of health website -they have guidance on infection control and handling specimens. Also check MHRA website they may have specific guidance on it also.
