Hi All, we are reviewing our requirements to upgrade e-showers throughout our site. We have corrosive chemicals (caustics, acids & ammonia) in significant numbers and use. We need to install new e-showers to provide additional coverage where not provided, and our current older style e-showers does not meet ANSI Z 358.1 2009. I have discussed with suppliers and have some showers identified but I have a dilema. External showers have potential to freeze so need to be heat traced. However they also need to provide tepid water to supply first aid measure for at least 15mins. (MSDS & ANZI) Heat trace does not fulifil this as it only keeps pipes from freezing. In theory, as the water will be mains supplied this is the same problem for internally located e-showers. We have identifed that 9 existing e-showers need to be replaced and 8 new locations added based on 16.5m travel distance stated within ANSI Z 358.1 2009. Only option to supply tepid water is self contained reseviour/heated e-shower units & they are nearly 4 x times cost of standard e-shower type with heat trace and the costs become prohibitive. Can I ask how others have selected their e-shower installations, types and locations and justified type for different areas? Cheers guys

Ask the Governor if he'd be willing to stand under a shower, outside with ice cold water for 15 mins. If he says yes, suggest that for staff morale, he does so (in January). Sorry Safetyman if not very constructive!
