Hi All
I've been asked by my boss to complete a task analysis regarding lathe use in our workplace.
I've never completed such an assessment before, does anyone have any advise (or a template) I could use to get me started?
All help much appreciated!!!
Best regards

Presumably you mean a task analysis risk assessment? If so, and with respect, you are probably not the right person to conduct a risk assessment. It does require a certain degree of knowledge and experience to do the assessment properly - granted it's not rocket science, but your employer should know better than to ask you to do something you neither have the tools or possibly the skills to do.
If you are not trained or knowledgeable to use the wheel lathe you would need to do the RA with someone who is. I am prepared to send you a template (I'm really not that mean) but it would be remiss of me not to point out your shortcomings.

Steve, you need to get your terminology right so that you can get the best answer. Exactly what are you looking for, a task analysis is a breakdown of the relevant components of a task from start to finish. It does not look at health or safety at all, its onnly about how the task is carried out. If you are looking at a risk assessment process then that would be more in depth than a simple task analysis as it also looks to identify what dangers are in a process, how likely they are to become actual incidents and the level of injury pssoible from the task should anything go wrong. Ray is right that you may not have the knowledge to complete a task analysis on your own and you should have someone who has accurate knowledge of the task to help you. If however it is a risk assessment having someone with knowledge of the task is not absolutely needed although it would be helpful as they acn guide you through the various activities (both good and bad) that make the activity up. There is quite a lot of very good thinking available from those who dont normally get involved with the process who can ask the simple questions such as why is it done that way or what are the dangers of doing it a particular way. My advise is be clear what you have been asked to do and if necessary get help from someone who understands what it is all about.
