We are fitting photovoltaics on a apartment block, the roof is pitched about 30 degrees and about 50 meters in length. We are not working near the rigde, only about 3/4 up . Is it compulsory to incorporate ridge protection into the method statement or will edge protection be suffice. As there is no need for the operatives to be anywhere near the ridge, although i know it would be good practice to put this in place.

Please advise.

It is common practice for only edge protection to be used via a scaffold along the full width of the work area plus some either side for extra security.

If there is no reasons for workforce to approach the ridge then providing ridge protection would simply put those erecting it at unnecessary risk.
