Hello everyone, Has anyone ever had the pleasure of working alongside network rail in construction, we have been asked as a sub contractor for our method statement for use of a telescopic handler on the site which runs parralell to the rails and OHPL. Trying to get the right context for the statement.

The main thing is not to panic - I've seen too many subbies tie themselves into knots over railway Method Statements. A couple of suggestions 1. Ask the main contractor what format he wants the MS to be in - he will [probably] be using a format that NR find acceptable, and he needs to put your MS into that same format. 2. Keep it simple - invariably the main contractor will add the 'twiddley bits' that NR wishes to see4 3. Be prepared to have to rework the MS [often more than once] to get it into an acceptable submission 4. Make sure you cover things like [not necessarily in this order] a] type of machine[s] b] machine maintenance being up to date c] how you ensure operator competency d] what work is to be done, and how it will be done safely e] might need a sketch/plan of site of work f] how you ensure telehandler does not get within 2m of track, OLE or other railway equipment g] site access/egress controls h] fuelling, and fuel storage i] checks to be carried out before during [and after] the work is being done j] basic risk assessment of work [in an agreed format] k] etc etc Its pretty easy as long as you approach it logically, keep it simple and tell the truth. Did hundreds over the years. If all else fails, ask the main contractor for advice and help - its in his interest to get it right Good Luck
