Not the horticultural types. Morning all. How long do my learned colleagues recommend that the daily user checks are held for? These are for fork lift and powered pallet trucks. My boss is an avid collector of paperwork, and I am not. I have recommended that we hold a rolling 6 months worth, as IMO, this should satisfy any interrogation of our process. Thanks Andy

Hi Andy, 6 months makes sense to me but with the caveat that if there are incidents involving plant then copies of the checks from that period should be kept for a lot longer. What are you audit procedures? Some externals can apply unnecessarily stringent requirements.

Hi SS. Audit??? I am wading through treacle at the moment to get basic things like audits done. Prior to my arrival daily checks weren't done- nor were LOLER inspections. If we have an incident involving any plant then copies of check sheets will be with the investigation paperwork- all this kept for 3 years. Our insurance company don't stipulate a retention time for check sheets. I keep using the phrase "common sense", but it doesn't seem to register, they are stuck in their ways and change isn't easy. My head repeatedly meets a brick wall. All good fun!! Ta Andy

I tend to be of the "keep everything forever" school. It's mad & not common sense, but immensely satisfying to wave at the ambulance chasers and sending them surrying back under their stones.

We keep daily / weekly check sheets for three years. We have just had somebody submit a claim for an accident two years and nine months following the accident so the checklists have come in very handy and we will not be accepting liability and defending it.

Same as previous two posters (3-years), for exactly the same reason.
