Morning all,
Can someone please clarify what the difference is with NPORS and CPCS (besides cost!).
I personally have never come across NPORS as all companies I have worked with previous were CPCS only, but the new company I've started with accept NPORS. BUT this company are a subby and are afraid that clients may not accept NPORS form of training.
I have has a look on the HSE website and it states that NPORS are an accredited body, so the HSE are therefore happy with their standards - yes?? or am I missing something??
I need to answer this question posed by site management.
Thanks in advance.

Morning to you too,
My take on the question posed are these are indeed both accredited bodies in their own rights for competencies of plant operators. With regards to clients preferences have they already stipulated that they will only accept CPCS or is NPORS an option they will consider. Also the difference between the two should not be that much as the types of training undertaken by their tutors and instructors should be similiar. And NO i don't think personally you've missed anything. What you may need to do is convince the client why they should consider NPORS.
Take Care

Thanks for your reply.
I may need to convince a few in future, the query was posed from site, I've sent them an email with the HSE page, so hopefully this will do.

As you may be aware; up until 2006 the NOPRS as part of the CPCS scheme, but it decided to go it alone.
Not sure if there is a lot of difference between them, so cant comment on that.
With regards to clients however, as they are the ones paying for a service then they make the rule, granted some can be swayed but others will simply state "our game our rules" so to speak.

Good Afternoon all,
I have had to make a similar decision in the past. As Smitch states it is what the clients will accept I have found more clients are accepting either NPORS or CPCS. My company ensures we maintain sufficient numbers of CPCS operatives, while training new operatives to the NPORS scheme. One point of interest is that out NPORS trainer is qualified to the CPCS scheme as well. I am afraid the HSE will not pass any comment.

As others have said there is virtually no difference as many Training companies can train to either standard.
You will not get a who is best from the HSE because they are both recognised training standards.
Sadly the problem you will have is that all the United Kingdom Contractors Group have signed up to the CPCS or CSCS scheme.
Therefore no CSCS or CPCS no work on our site. We have had CPCS card holders stopped because they were not CSCS card holders (Who does not know the difference to plant workers or skilled construction workers?)
Many of the other mid range Contractors have decided to go this way as well.
Good luck but if you are hunting UKCG work you will need CSCS /CPCS cards.
